THE GEORGIA O'KEEFE SET





Son 3 tetraedros truncados inscriptos en tetraedros de arista. Cada uno tiene 4 caras hexagonales hechas con cuadrados de 16 x 16 cm (de un calendario de Georgia O'Keefe) y 4 caras triangulares hechas con papel de 11.6 x 10 cm (cortados de folletos de 19 x 19). Quedaban unas tiras muy convenientes que corté a 9 x 17.7 con las que plegué el tetraedro (es más largo que lo que la geometría demanda para acomodar el espesor de los plegados). Hexágono basado en el Jittergug de Tung Ken Lam, triángulo en Small triangle unit de Tomoko Fuse y el tetraedro está hecho con el módulo de 60º de Francis Ow'.

Three truncated tetrahedra inscribed in edge tetrahedra. Each one has 4 hexagonal faces made from 16 x 16 cm squares 
(from a Georgia O'Keefe calendar). and 4 triangular faces folded with 11.6 x 10 cm rectangles (cut from 19 x 19 squares). 
Some very conveniente stripes were left and I used them for the tetrahedron 
-cutting them to 9 x 17.5 cm. It is longer than geometry demands to accomodate the thickness of folds. Hexagon based on Tung Ken Lam's Jitterbug, Triangle on Tomoko Fuse´s Triangular tiles and Tetrahedron made with Francis Ow's 60º module.

MEDIDA Y FORMA DEL PAPEL - PAPER SIZING

Para determinar la medida del papel hacer estos pliegues preparatorios en 1 hoja que puede ser cuadrada o rectangular. 

To determine paper size for the triangle, first make these preparatory folds in 1 sheet (may be square or rectangular).

1 - Plegar uniendo los puntos.
2 - Cortar por la línea de flechas.
Yo uso la primera hoja como plantilla de corte.

1 - Fold joining the dots.
2 - Cut along arrow line.
I use this first sheet as pattern.

DIAGRAMA DE PLEGADO - FOLDING INSTRUCTIONS

Los pasos a seguir son: 

  1. Plegar el rectángulo por la mitad

  2. Plegar una diagonal.

  3. Dar vuelta.

  4. Doblar por la mitad.

  5. a) Plegar el triángulo de la izquierda. b) Plegar el segmento de la derecha.

  6. c) Plegar la aletita que sobresale e introducirla entre las capas de papel. El triángulo resultante tiene bolsillos en todos los bordes. Hacer 4.

 

Steps to fold: 

  1. Valley fold at the center

  2. Fold one diagonal.

  3. Turn over.

  4. Valley fold in half.

  5. a) Fold the left triangle. b) Fold the right segment.

  6. c) Fold small flap and tuck between the layers. The resulting triangle has pockets on all three edges. Make 4.

 

UNIDAD HEXAGONAL - HEXAGON UNIT - Tung Ken Lam, Jitterbug

Fold joining the dots with white side up. Fold the last part of the triangle.
Fold and hide small excedent flaps. Determine center point.
Fold all three points to the center. Open last folds. These are the flaps. Make 4.

          
El tetraedro truncado tiene 4 lados hexagonales y 4 triangulares. En este modelo los lados hexagonales que se tocan no están unidos, pero si las medidas son exactas se alinean sin separación. Montar introduciendo 1 aleta de tres hexágonos en cada triángulo.

The truncated tetrahedron has 4 hexagons and 4 triangle sides. In this construction the adjoining hexagon edges are not joined, but with accurate sizing no gaps are visible. Assemble tucking 1 flap from three hexagons into each triangle.
